Duet with my wife's video
My wife posted a new video today celebrating the news that my book trilogy is coming to Spain and Brazil, and she found this moment filmed by someone in the audience. Just thought I'd share.
The night before my cover reveal, I slept about four hours. I woke up at 3AM and stared at the ceiling, trying to imagine how the event would go.
I tried to imagine, based off the sketches I'd seen, what final cover would look like. Conrad was the least defined in the sketches. So, I knew I'd see him for the first time.
When we got to my school in the morning for the assembly, Ashley and our children followed me to my classroom. I was so nervous, but also so excited.
When school started, we walked down to the auditorium together with my students. And as I took my seat near the stage, there came a moment where I was like, "Am I really going to do this in front of the whole school?"
But I knew I wanted to share the moment with them. So, I swallowed down my fears.
And when I saw Sky's End's cover, it was like a jolt. All the emotions I'd been trying to hide came bursting out with one big shout. I saw Conrad. He was real. He had a massive mobile harpoon launcher strapped to his back, and he looked AWESOME! I couldn't believe it. And the monster, the gorgantaun, loomed in the distance. I wanted to stare and stare, but then the crowd stood. And clapped and cheered. And I broke down crying in front of everyone.
It was a magical moment. A top-five life moment.
