Haunted History in Philly: Morton Morton House | Unexplained Cases
Philadelphia may be the birthplace of American democracy, but it's also home to some of the nation’s most haunted history. In the third and final chapter of our haunted Philly series, Unexplained Cases heads just outside the city to Norwood, Pennsylvania — to investigate the mysterious and ghost-filled Morton Morton House.
Yes, you read that right — Morton Morton. This oddly named estate was built in 1750 by Morton Morton, great-grandson of Marten Martenson and cousin to John Morton, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Today, it’s recognized on the National Register of Historic Places — but that’s not why we’re here.
We came for the ghosts.
With help once again from the fearless Donna of Philly Ghost Hunt, we explored this colonial-era landmark to see if its haunted reputation holds up. The upstairs gave us a few solid equipment hits… but the real story unfolded in the dark, dusty basement — a place where legend says the spirit of a murderer or possibly an evil pirate might still linger.
It wasn’t long before our team started experiencing strange activity: unexplained noises, uneasy feelings, and moments we couldn’t explain. Could the Morton Morton House hold secrets buried for centuries?
