In this video, we present you the commonly used technique, i.e., Interfacial Polymerization (IP) in fabricating thin film composite (TFC) membranes for water application.
When two immiscible solutions containing different monomers are interacted on the surface of microporous substrate (with ultrafiltration properties), an extremely thin selective layer (i.e., polyamide) will be developed. This cross-linked layer offers the resultant membranes to have promising rejection rates against dissolved ions while demonstrating good water permeability.
