Forgiveness Keeps You Free || 11.6.24
Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (Luke 23:34)
Choosing forgiveness in this season will be one of the many ways the glorious liberty of the children of God will deliver and redeem all of creation from the bondage of the corruption it has been subjected to.
Forgiveness says yesterday cannot have lasting influence on my life. Forgiveness says I am not going to allow someone else’s sin in my past control me in my present.
Unforgiveness, offense, and the resulting bitterness will always magnify the perceived effects of sin against you in an attempt to produces sin in and through you. Nothing will ruin the quality of someone’s life quicker or more severely than bitterness, because bitterness prolongs a temporary problem and if not quickly caught and repented of will create a lasting effect on your soul.
While unforgiveness can quickly cause you to be unnecessarily burdened by what’s been in a way that gives way to blinding bitterness, forgiveness empowers us to be unburdened by what’s been.
