Equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, continued their bullish momentum to settle at new all-time highs on Monday, driven by robust domestic economic growth data and fresh foreign fund inflows.
Investors are now looking ahead to the US employment report due for release on Friday, for an indication on the strength of the American economy and hopes of a potential US interest rate cut in September.
The 30-share BSE Sensex advanced 194 points to close at 82,559, while the NSE Nifty climbed 42 points to settle at 25,278.
From the Sensex pack Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, HCL Tech, ITC and IndusInd Bank were the top gainers; while NTPC, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel and Powergrid were among the top losers.
On the sectoral front FMCG, Financial services, IT, Power and Oil & Gas stocks led the market momentum; while Capital goods, Metal, Media, Realty, Healthcare and Auto stocks remained subdued.
Asian markets settled on a mixed note where Japan's Nikkei, Seoul's Kospi, and Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite closed in green while China’s Shanghai Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng ended in red.
European markets were trading in negative territory. Wall Street settled higher on Friday.
Foreign Institutional Investors were net buyers on Friday as they purchased equities worth over 5,318 crore rupees.
