About Me!
My name is Ron Manes, I am 50 years old and have been involved in martial arts my entire life. My family owned a karate school since before I was born. In 2002 I attended a Royce Gracie BJJ seminar with a friend but was not completely interested. It wasn’t until 2005 that I started training daily in BJJ. My first instructor was Kazeka Muniz who awarded my Blue belt in June of 2008 under the eye of Ricardo Murgel in Atlanta, Ga. In January of 2013, I received my Purple Belt from USA Jiu-Jitsu founder “Papa John” Gorman, who introduced me to my current Professor, Piet Wilhelm. Piet awarded my Brown belt in December of 2014 and I was awarded Black Belt from Piet in December of 2016.

I have been teaching BJJ for the past 15 years. I have an academy by the name of Kobukan Martial Arts Academy in Norfolk, Va. I am experienced and excellent in explaining the details of specific positions and conceptional ideas concerning BJJ. I am an older Black belt of average size and can present a number of solutions from the perspectives of both younger and older Practitioners. In addition, as a current competitor, I can provide great perspectives and analysis of your game to assist you with competition issues. I compete regularly in the Master’s divisions and am well versed in IBJJF Rules.
