35 years ago, by decision of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, an investigative team from the USSR Prosecutor General's Office, led by investigators for especially important cases Telman Gdlyan and Nikolai Ivanov, arrived in Uzbekistan with the task of investigating cases related to corruption in the highest echelons of the republic's party and state leadership. This unprecedented investigation, dubbed the "Cotton Case," revealed unprecedented levels of corruption, bribery, and falsification of records not only in the republic but throughout the entire country. According to Andropov's plan, this case was to be the first step toward profound systemic and structural reforms in the USSR. Unfortunately, after Yuri Vladimirovich's death, it became the trigger for the country's collapse.
