We give it another shot and do quite well. I also find out after this episode that if you go back to the main menu between sections, it creates a continue point! Which is great! Exactly what I needed! We make it to the next boss!

Let's Play When The Light Dies! This looked like it takes the survivors formula and turns it on its head. Having to aim, choosing when to shoot, and not just never ending waves and dashing. Stamina management, skills, and more set this apart. I like it so far!
