It seems that a common opinion by the gaming community nowadays is that games now are just too similar to each other. That even if the core gameplay is entirely unique, there's just something about them that feels like you’ve played them before. Gamers lament the lack of originality in games, but despite that wide reception across the gaming community, games with entirely unique concepts ARE still releasing, and on a frequent basis too. But no matter what, people can’t seem to scratch that feeling that something is just off with games right now. So, what's going on here? Why is there a massive disconnect between the gaming community's perception of the industry and the actual core of modern games?

To understand that, we’ll need to go back and take a very brief look at the beginnings of the video game industry, so we can get some context on the environments at the core of video game companies.
