On May 15, experience Black horsemen’s profound impact on Thoroughbred racing.
Isaac Murphy won three Kentucky Derbys and was the most successful jockey in U.S. history, winning 44% of his races. Jimmy Lee remains the only 20th century jockey to have swept a full card of races in the U.S. Jimmy Winkfield won back to back Kentucky Derbys, and went on to have a successful career in Russia and France. Oliver Lewis won the first Kentucky Derby in 1875 and went on to write handicapping charts that served as precursors to those found today in publications such as the Daily Racing Form.
