In this video I demonstrate the extremely easy prep of benzenecarbaldehyde from benzyl alcohol using (bis)pyridinesilver(I) permanganate in dry benzene. The prep takes about 30 minutes. The paper this is taken from is "Bispyridinesilver permanganate[Ag(C5H5N)2]MnO4: an efficient oxidizing reagent for organic substrates" and it's DOI is 10.1016/S0040-4039(00)86758-1.
