Why Junior Devs are always LATE on their deadlines?!
Was asked this question on LinkedIn and I figured this could probably help other junior devs as well.
"I'm curious if any devs can offer insight into how they estimate how long a project will take.
For context, I know in my head that I should under-promise and over-deliver, but what usually happens is that I'll pseudocode a project, see that everything makes sense and feels doable, and then be overly optimistic about everything proceeding smoothly and end up being off. And when I remember to try to build in more time to be safe, I end up feeling like I can't really justify it, like "oh yeah, I need X extra days in case my initial work totally sucks."
So I guess I'm asking both in the professional sense, best practices for creating and communicating time estimates, and in the inner monologue sense, how to talk to myself."
