Note: hotpot and huoguo are the same. Hotpot in 🇺🇸 and huoguo in 🇨🇳.
Lately hotpot restaurants have become very popular and I really understand why. I find it a very different and fun concept to eat with family or friends.
The few times I've been to one I've had a great time. Seeing how my friends suffered when they tried to eat with their chopsticks, how they burnt themselves and how lost they were was quite funny hehe.
Jokes aside, hotspots are cool. The only downside is that the times I've been there, I've found the service to be mediocre to bad. Having been a waitress for so many years, it's one of the things I notice the most.
Let's cut to the chase, why do huoguo at home?
Doing it at home has pros and cons. The pros are that it's more intimate, quieter and more customisable. The disadvantages are that it's more work and you need a portable cooker.
In reality, any cooker will do. Electric, camping, whatever. As long as it's small and fits on the table.... It's ok.
