Remote Collar Recall
Jon took Mickey to the park today to work on remote collar recall. The key to solid recall is to spend time proofing the command first. Often times people try to skip to the last step and in doing so, don't achieve the results they are looking for. To proof remote collar recall, we start by layering a 20ft long line with the remote collar and create an invisible bubble so the dog learns the boundaries and the area we want him to stay within. Just before the dog reaches the end of the long line, we give a vocal prompt (a noise, the dog's name, or another word that essentially means "hold up") layered with a stim on the Ecollar. Once the dog stops, we then recall the dog back to our side using "here". Once we feel confident that the dog has learned the boundary and the command, we will start by dropping the long line and eventually remove the long line altogether and rely solely on the remote collar. The beauty of the remote collar and the proofing is that the dog learns that no matter where we go, leash or no leash, a boundary is set and he can't just run off.
