Black Cloud, Red Fire uses a more traditional hand-drawn animation style reminiscent of older animated fables. The cutscene follows the monk Jinchi, a character who you might have completely missed if you didn't go out of your way to collect the Vessel featured in Chapter 1.
Compared to the character in Chapter 1, Jinchi seems to be a completely different character. Instead of the gold-covered lumbering creature the Destined One defeats at the Ancient Guanyin Temple, the scene shows Jinchi in his younger years, completely innocent and untainted by the influence of the Kasaya.
It focuses on the foundations of his relationship with the Black Bear and how he works his way up the ranks in the monastery thanks to this friendship and protection, eventually taking on the leadership position of High Monk at Guanyin Temple.
He eventually becomes consumed by his greed as he becomes obsessed with Sanzang's beautiful gold Kasaya and conspires to kill him so he can own it for himself. However, the plan backfires, and the fire that he planned to use to kill Sanzang instead kills his fellow conspirators, himself, as well as burning down the temple.
It ends with the meaning of this fable, as the Black Bear asks Guanyin why a high monk like Jinchi was still so attached to his worldly desires to go to such lengths to keep the Kasaya, and Guanyin tells him that Jinchi would be unable to prove his lack of worldly desires if he didn't have such an ornate Kasaya to prove he's a high monk.
