Django came to Sanctuary One in the Spring of 2016 from a neglect case where he lived his first 3 years of his life on a heavy chain tied to a barrel. When he arrived he had wounds on his neck from the chain. Django had an aggressive history but over time he learned to trust humans and how to be a goat. He enjoyed being in the pasture with his barnyard friends where he could roam and be free.
He showed people that while our history may shape who we are, it does not define what we may become. Django may have been hurt by people in the past, but he was a loving goat who deeply loved his time with staff, volunteers, and interns especially when they had cabbage for him, time for a grooming session, or his favorite, butt scratches.
Django had a devastating condition called CAE (caprine arthritis encephalitis) and this past winter he started having more bad days than good. We did not want him to suffer so with the advice from our vet we decided to let him be free of his pain.
Django was a proud and majestic soul; he will be greatly missed. We deeply appreciate all the staff who have cared for him over the years, as well as the donors and volunteers who always go above and beyond to ensure we are able to provide safe haven and refuge to those in need, like our beloved Django.
