Finally I can talk about something that isn't Drake vs Kendrick, and this time it's going to be on the oversaturated and overblown state of the current mainstream music scene. It's becoming battered with greed on all sides from some of the biggest artists in the industry, and the ones that are falling off are clearly showing signs of desperation by trying every distribution trick in the book. But at the end of the day, all it's showing is that there's more fun with the more niche talent now more than ever. Fair use is a legal doctrine that promotes freedom of expression by permitting the unlicensed use of copyright-protected works in certain circumstances. Section 107 of the Copyright Act provides the statutory framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses—such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research—as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use.
