Throughout The Walking Dead and the spinoffs that followed the original series, the universe has expanded on the backstories of many different characters. While the audience has only seen most of the characters within the post-apocalyptic world, there is also enough backstory given to understand which people were more prepared for the end of the world.
Characters like Daryl Dixon and Abraham Ford had backstories that made it obvious they had the survival skills to live and thrive in the dangerous world of the undead. However, others such as Carol Peletier and Maggie Greene (Rhee) had unique life experiences that prepared them in less obvious ways. Though the survivors have been living in this treacherous landscape for many years, these characters were the most prepared.
