The hepatitis B virus (HBV) can cause cirrhosis of the liver, liver cancer, and eventual death. The hepatitis B (HepB or PreHevbrio) vaccine can greatly reduce these complications from an HBV infection, which uses a protein-based technology. There is also a combination vaccine named Twinrix approved for adults that protects individuals from both hepatitis A and hepatitis B.
