Now here is a problem that I hope you will like.
This problem has been very popular on Social media sites such as Reddit and other also on many Blogs.
So here it is, todays problem:
A store sells letters made of Wood.
Each letter has a cost associated with it.
Now here are some costs
The word ONE costs 1 dollar,
the word TWO costs 2 dollars,
and the word ELEVEN costs 11 dollars.
Can you find out the cost of the letter TWELVE?

Now here is one way of solving this problem.
I will use the popular strategy of trying to convert the unknown into what is known
And what is known are the cost of the words ONE, TWO and TWELVE.
So can we cover the word TWELVE which is unknown into these letters, which are known?
Let’s find out…
I am going to split TWELVE into 2 parts Like so:
TW + ELVE
Now this looks very much like Two and Eleven.
Let us add the missing parts
TWO + ELEVEN
Great. As can see that we have added the letters O E and N
So we can say the letters in 12 are equal to the letters in two plus the letters in eleven minus the letters O E and N
TWELVE = TWO + ELEVEN - OEN
But wait a minute…
OEN is an anagram for ONE
An anagram is a word that can be formed by rearranging letters of another.
So for example words of the letter tan can be rearranged to form the word ant.
So we can say
TWELVE = TWO + ELEVEN - ONE
And since we know the cost of the words Two, eleven and one, we can say the value of 12 is 2 + 11 - 1 which gives us 11.
But I am sure that many of you already figured out this answer, perhaps intuitively.
That is why many find this problem so easy.
