Gebogan
Gebogan or Pajegan is an offering used by Hindus in Bali. Gebogan typically consists of a collection of fruits, snacks, or flowers neatly arranged on a dulang (a container for arranging fruits, snacks, and flowers). Gebogan are usually placed on the head by women and carried to the temple as an offering to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa (God).
The meaning and philosophy of gebogan can be seen in its conical shape, resembling a mountain; the higher it goes, the more tapered it becomes. It is topped with canang sari and sampyan gebogan (decorations placed on top of the fruit made from young coconut leaves) as a form of offering and devotion to God, the creator of the universe. The value of a gebogan is not determined by its height, but by the sincerity of the heart in expressing gratitude and, ultimately, by the appreciation of art. Making a gebogan offering doesn't need to be large, because the essence of making a gebogan is the Panca Rengga. The fruits included in the Panca Rengga are:
1. Fruits that grow from flowers, such as mango, apple, orange, and guava.
2. Fruits that bear fruit only once and die immediately, such as bananas.
3. Fruits that grow directly from the tree, such as jackfruit, durian, langsat, and lychee.
4. Scaly fruits, such as pineapple, snake fruit, and dragon fruit.
5. Fruits that come from roots, such as jicama, sabrang, and cassava.
In this video, I'll share how to make a gebogan offering for beginners. I hope this is helpful. Continue to support this channel by liking, commenting, and sharing it with your friends. And of course, by subscribing, thank you.
