Making New Machines Vol 1 - The Film Camera

Oscar Oweson from Panomicron.com goes through the biggest issues for creating a new film camera today. The key challenges revolve around the shutter, as everything else can be manufactured even at a small scale rather easily.
This talk is a part of a wider conversation starter to the industry. Film photography, the epitome of chemical and mechanical engineering, was created by entire lifetimes of work from tens of thousands of R&D engineers. After preserving the memories of humanity for several generations and helping create the most iconic photographs ever taken, this technology deserves to be available for the future generations.
Young people around the world are now discovering the essence of analog photography and demand is high, but there are some technical challenges that need to be addressed before we can confidently shout that film photography is now safe for decades to come.
To address some of the other main questions, we are hosted an after-work session on the 23rd of August. Two main issues were discussed:
1) Making a new machine that would be able to scan film in a way that it is accessible to all at a reasonable cost/time ratio.
2) Making a new film camera, especially the shutter, that will have even some of the precision of the cameras of yesteryear.
This event is ment to be a start of a conversation in where we invite engineers, inventors, dreamers, manufacturers and anyone else interested.
