Gavin Grimm SCOTUS Status Update
The Trump administration rolled back the Obama guidance on how to implement trans friendly policies at schools to comply with Title IX, as the Obama administration took the same view that many courts have taken: that gender identity is included when it comes to sex based discrimination. AG Sessions and DeVos seem to think otherwise, and it'll be up to the Gavin Grimm case in the Supreme Court to perhaps finally settle the issue once and for all.
And while many make this out to be a "bathroom debate" - this isn't about bathrooms. This is about whether or not transgender people have the right to exist in the United States of America.
It is not a "states rights" issue, as I am no less American in Texas than I am in California. That I was born in a state like Ohio (that doesn't want to change birth certificates) should not dictate how I get treated anywhere else. That's not how being American works.
