About the protagonist:
Ar Snehal Shah, is an Architect & Urban Designer, having immense experience and strong inclination in the fields of micro-level design issues, energy efficient design, space optimization, green buildings, mass housing & project implementation strategies. He has based himself at Surat in the state of Gujarat (India) and has worked on projects of varying scales in the States of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Meghalaya and West Bengal. He has spent nearly a year in Europe (1996) studying various cities and their architecture. Academically, the career is dotted with a number of Gold Medals at Graduate and Postgraduate levels, from one of India’s premier institutes, CEPT. His firms EssTeam, Urban Initiatives and EssAct, have successfully completed over 700 projects of varying scales in the last twenty years, be it project design or project management across diverse typologies. He has a special inclination and enthusiasm in taking up projects for the city. He is well supported by his Architect Planner wife Ms. Saloni Shah in his endeavors.
As a Co-chairman, he founded the Indian Green Building Council, Surat Chapter, six years back and now has been serving IGBC as Chairman, He has been involved in a number of programs, to spread the awareness about sustainable and green buildings in a large way through this platform. He has been bestowed with the Fellowship of IGBC, as a recognition of his contribution in the field of Green Building Design and Sustainability. His firm has completed nearly 20 lakh square feet of certified green spaces, and about 60 lakh square feet is underway. The firm has delivered 25+ certified Green Building projects, most of which are Platinum rated. As a recognition to the contribution, IGBC bestowed EssTeam its highest award, the Green Champions Award in the year 2021. His firm has received till date, over 40 international, national and regional awards in the field of urban design, architecture, green building design and interior design. Snehal has been part of a number of design competition juries including the reputed JK-IIA Awards. He is also serving at Dept of Architecture, SCET, Surat as Adjunct Professor for a number of years.
