Its day 2 in Cyprus and today me and Ben visited a War-Torn Ghost Town Sealed for 50 years in Cyprus! - Famagusta Varosha. #GhostTown #cyprus #famagusta #varosha
We took our rental car from just outside Paphos up to the Deryneia Crosspoint boarder which took us just over two hours. When we arrived the crossing was very simple. We Parked our car in the car park opposite and walked up the the desk where he checked our passport and then allowed us through, after walking along for a few minutes the same process was followed and then that was it.
I spoke to the information desk there about a car hire and they said that we could only get that from the town centre which was quite far so he called a taxi to take us to the entrance of the ghost town. This only cost $15 each way!
Upon approaching we were instantly questioned about our cameras and other gear but they didn't have too much issue with us wanting to photograph and record the sections that we were aloud to walk around.
Lets explore the abandoned and eerie Famagusta Ghost Town. This amazing historical attraction is a must-see for any visitor to Cyprus. This intriguing ghost town shows you the many beautiful ruins and abandoned buildings. Once you've seen Famagusta Ghost Town, you'll never forget it!

"In the early 1970s, Famagusta was the number-one tourist destination in Cyprus. To cater to the increasing number of tourists, many new high-rise buildings and hotels were constructed. During its heyday, Varosha was not only the number-one tourist destination in Cyprus, but between 1970 and 1974, it was one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and was a favorite destination of such celebrities as Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Raquel Welch, and Brigitte Bardot.[7]
Before 1974, Varosha was the modern tourist area of the Famagusta city. Its Greek Cypriot inhabitants fled during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, when the city of Famagusta came under Turkish control, and it has remained abandoned ever since. In 1984 a U.N. resolution called for the handover of the city to UN control and said that only the original inhabitants, who were forced out, could resettle in the town.
Entry to Varosha was opened to civilians in 2017."
