Painting my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee brake calipers!
I did paint inside a garage. Temperature outside was 35*F.
1) buy 2-cans of supertech brake cleaner or similar $1.94 each from Walmart, spray on calipers, I used brite scratch pad etc mine weren’t to dirty with being fairly new. Take 30-45 to prep, clean and dry.
2) 45 min or so to mask off wheel wells and brake rotors. Use Kroger bag to put over rotors. Bag work good and can be easy put into small areas. Use newspaper for rest of area covering shocks and fender to be safe from overspray. You will need painters tape to tape off rubber bleed valves and stems near calipers for precautions.
3) 1 can of VHT high temperature caliper paint can from AutoZone $8.99. I did 5-6 small even coats, going around the Jeep until can was empty. I had no paint run or drips! I did all coats within a 45-60 minute window like cans says to do.
4) it was dry to the touch with 15-30 minutes after last coat. I did take heat gun 30-45 seconds on each caliper to help dry faster since weather was colder outside.
********************do not use a wheel brush that has metal wire going through it. It was take off the paint. I made that mistake with the speed brush! I am re painting and adding a vht high temp clear coat and using a softer wheel brush!
