This guide is useful if you want to switch scenes, start recording, stop recording, start streaming, mute audio, control sources, manage overlays, or use your phone as a remote control for OBS Studio.

To use an OBS remote control app, first make sure you have OBS Studio installed and updated on your computer.
Open OBS Studio, then go to Tools and look for WebSocket Server Settings. In newer versions of OBS Studio, WebSocket support is built in, so you usually do not need to install a separate plugin.
Enable the WebSocket server and check the server port. The default port is commonly 4455, but you should always check the port shown in your OBS settings.
Set a strong password for the WebSocket connection. This is important because the remote control app can control your scenes, sources, audio, recording, and streaming actions.
Next, make sure your phone and your computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Most OBS remote control apps need both devices to be on the same local network.
Now find your computer’s local IP address. On Windows, you can open Command Prompt and type ipconfig. Look for your IPv4 address. On Mac, open network settings and check the local IP address of your active connection.
Open the OBS remote control app on your phone and enter the computer IP address, WebSocket port, and password. Then tap connect.
Once connected, you should be able to control OBS from your phone. Depending on the app, you may be able to change scenes, start or stop streaming, start or stop recording, mute microphones, hide or show sources, control transitions, and manage basic studio controls.
If the OBS remote control app is not connecting, check that OBS is open, WebSocket is enabled, the IP address is correct, the port number matches, and the password is typed correctly.
Also check your firewall settings. Windows Defender Firewall or another security program may block the connection between your phone and OBS Studio. Allow OBS Studio through the firewall if needed.
If you are using a VPN, public Wi-Fi, guest network, or mobile hotspot, the app may not detect OBS correctly. Try using the same private Wi-Fi network for both devices.
Avoid exposing OBS WebSocket directly to the internet unless you know how to secure it properly. For most users, the safest option is to use OBS remote control only on your local network.
