POV: You're The Main Character and Social Media Is Playing YOU
Have you ever encountered someone suffering from "Main Character Syndrome"? Or have you ever felt this weird compulsion to just express something on social media to see what reaction you get? Why do these things happen? Is it because we're all mad? Well, yes, partially it's because of that, but also it's because while we're all the protagonist of our own stories, we're actually getting played by the forces that impact our behaviour especially on social media.
In this video where I decided to do a location shoot with a costume, I decided to think a little about where these forces come from, how they impact us and why Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook and even good old fashioned internet forums are actually mechanically similar to MMO games. Which certainly explains why they're such miserable experiences that a lot of us are seemingly unable to walk away from.
