Detroit Zoo Grand Opening
Acting Mayor John C. Nagel and Henry Ledyard, President of Detroit Zoological Commission, presides at the official opening in the 1920s in Michigan. The elephants, lions, polar bears, and other animals are in enclosures without bars. A moat prevents them from leaving their dens.
The Detroit Zoo was the first zoo in the United States to use barless exhibits extensively.
