When we hear “judgment” in scripture, it often triggers fear—visions of punishment or anger. But what if we’ve misunderstood? A Jesus-centered theology teaches that judgment isn’t something aimed at us, but for us—a way God leads us to life.

Take Matthew 7, where Jesus speaks of two paths: one wide and leading to ruin, the other narrow and leading to life. This isn’t about heaven and hell but a warning about how our choices shape our lives. Greed, jealousy, and status lead to ruin, not because God is waiting to punish, but because that’s where those roads naturally end.

God’s judgment, then, is not a cosmic punishment, but a loving intervention—a way of redirecting us toward the path of life. It’s like a parent guiding a child away from danger. As we rethink judgment, we see it through grace: an opportunity, not a condemnation.

At the heart of Jesus’ teaching is a message of hope. God’s mission is to save, to heal, to transform. So, judgment isn’t about fear—it’s about love in action, drawing us closer to the divine life we were made for. If we can hold this in mind, we can engage with scripture, and life, in ways that lead us deeper into wisdom, love, and the way of Jesus.
