A few years ago, I explored the Western Province of the Solomon Islands with my friend and historian Bryan Stefancyk. At the time, I knew little about the New Georgia campaign and was getting very intrigued. I asked Bryan if he had any material to read, and he handed me 'Into The Shadows Furious'. I was both fascinated and deeply disturbed by the stories recounted within its pages, vivid first-hand accounts of experience with neuropsychiatric casualties during the drive on Munda. The green US 43rd Infantry Division faced danger from harsh tropical surroundings, a formidable enemy, and their own minds. Their struggles were both eye-opening and heart-wrenching.
It's crucial for us as a society to gain a deeper understanding of the hidden and traumatic impacts of war. Hence, I wanted to share this important story with you.
