Iceland: Sólheimajökull Glacier
Sólheimajökull Glacier is located near Vik Iceland and is small at 27 sq miles but is part of the larger Mýrdalsjökull Glacier that measures around 230 sq miles. Mýrdalsjökull is an ice cap that sits on top of Katla Volcano which is considered active but it's last eruption was back around 1918. It has at least 20 recorded eruptions. These eruption are spread out through the centuries dating back around 2920 B.C. That is Before Christ. Each eruption over the years has laid a layer of ash upon the ice and each new season coats that ash with a new layer of snow and ice. You can see many of these black and white layers in the video. Keep in mind, the ash layer is pretty thin.
