1. Buddha Purnima:
Significance: Celebrated on the full-moon day of Vaisakh, marking the 2568th birth anniversary of Buddha.
Key Events:
Birth of Prince Siddhartha in Lumbini, Nepal.
Attainment of enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, Bihar.
Mahaparinirvana in Kusinagar, UP.
Teachings:
Hatred and Enmity: Buddha taught that responding to hatred with hatred perpetuates animosity and violence.
Spiritual Liberation: Focus on doing good, refraining from harm, and purifying the mind.
Core Principles: Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path (Right Speech, Action, Livelihood, Effort, Mindfulness, Concentration, View, Intention).
Mind: Emphasized control and cultivation of the mind through meditation (Samatha for calmness, Vipassana for insight).
2. BIMSTEC Charter:
Overview: Entered into force on May 20, 2024, establishing a legal framework for cooperation among member countries.
Goals: Foster regional economic integration and cooperation in sectors like agriculture, fisheries, connectivity, and tourism.
Members: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand.
Significance:
Consensus Decision-Making: All decisions taken by consensus among members.
Legal Personality: Allows for the admission of new members and observers, and engagement with international organizations.
Strategic Interests: Aligns with India’s Act East Policy, enhancing connectivity and regional partnerships while countering China’s influence.
