This video will show you how to use MapInfo to take cell values e.g. elevation from a raster table e.g. SRTM geotiff and store them in a vector point layer. The example takes a layer of points representing towns and effectively adds a new column "Elevation". This results in the table now having two columns - name and elevation.
Very easy to do and I hope this is useful - works with any raster layer and any vector layer (that you want updated).
