Typically I write songs, but this is the first poem I wrote, and wanted to turn it into a full video, especially for Halloween:) I wrote the accompanying track as well!
To celebrate finding myself and a place I call home, I made a video as a tribute to the spaces I've been able to be myself. I hope we can all find our unexpected oasis to be ourselves.
Poem:
Lost in the suburbs
Lost in the haze
Taken from nowhere
Been wandering for days.
My feet started aching
I gave them a rest.
Untucked my wings
And I flew to the west.
A house was below me
It was hidden by trees.
I knew it was different
It shielded the breeze.
I tucked in my wings
And I knocked on the door
The door swung wide open
I was welcomed once more.
I looked all around me
My mouth was agape
No one was hiding
Their wings, fangs and capes.
They gave me the tour
and lent me a bed
A night after flying
I rested my head.
I woke in the morning
I knew it was a dream.
Images lingered
of the people like me.
Squeezed my eyes shut
Maybe I could return
To the house in the suburbs
Not let the dream burn.
A voice from the dream asked
How did you sleep?
Eyes shot wide open
Was my delusion this deep?
But there was my host
And this was the place.
The people who welcomed
This sad sorry face.
