Write for College Professional Development (Grades 11-12)
This professional development video introduces the components of the Write for College program for grades 11-12.
Write for College helps students write, read, study, speak, and learn in high school, college, and the workplace. Students develop the writing rigor that colleges expect in argument essays, research reports, entrance essays, and much more. They also learn strategies for testing well on Advanced Placement exams, college-entrance exams, and other high-stakes assessments.
-Write for College covers all of the 11th and 12th grade Common Core English/Language Arts standards for writing, reading, speaking and listening, language, and literacy across the curriculum.
-Students learn powerful strategies for each step in the writing process: prewriting, writing, revising, editing, and publishing.
-A rigorous research section helps students find and evaluate sources, avoid plagiarism, write reports, and create papers using MLA or APA documentation.
-Cross-curricular chapters teach note taking, summarizing, and writing in science, social studies, math, and the workplace.
-The Tools of Learning section teaches specific strategies for reading nonfiction and literature, speaking and listening, studying, and taking tests.
-The Proofreader's Guide helps students with punctuation, mechanics, spelling, usage, sentences, and grammar.
