NTFS, MS-DOS (FAT), Mac OS Extended (journaled) etc. formats can't read and write from both Mac OS X and Windows.
But, ExFat format can read and write by both Windows (PC) and Mac OS X.
If you want to transfer files between PC and a Mac, This is the format that you have to format your external hard drive. No file size limitations.
