o Radhakrishnan was born in Tondiarpet, a suburb of Madras (now Chennai), India.
o His father was the renowned Nobel laureate physicist Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, and his mother was Lokasundari Ammal.
o He completed his early schooling in Madras and later graduated from Mysore University.

He worked as a Research Assistant at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden from 1955 to 1958.
He held positions at the California Institute of Technology in the USA.
Later, he joined the Radiophysics Division of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in Sydney, Australia.
o In 1972, he returned to India and took on the task of rebuilding the Raman Research Institute in Bangalore as its director.
o During his tenure from 1972 to 1994, he gained international acclaim for his work in pulsar astronomy, liquid crystals, and other cutting-edge areas of astronomy.
