Raw Wood e’ il nuovo CD del chitarrista e compositore milanese Daniele Defranchis, che fa seguito al precedente lavoro The Source.
Il progetto e’ una fusione unica e libera di stili musicali dal classico al moderno, con una forte impronta etnica. Melodie mediorientali, ritmi africani, armonie celtiche, solismo rock, fraseggi classici, si fondono in uno stile unico, sanguigno ed evocativo.
Nella varieta’ del linguaggio, Raw Wood conserva una forte unita’ musicale e stilistica, dovuta alla continua presenza dei diversi elementi musicali che si fondono, si alternano e si susseguono da un brano all’altro.
Il CD alterna brani strumentali complessi e dalla forte componente ritmica e adrenalinica a brani per chitarra sola chiamati meditazioni, oasi contemplative che propongono la musica nella sua funzione terapeutica tipica della cultura orientale
L’intero progetto musicale ruota intorno alla chitarra, utilizzata come strumento melodico, armonico, ritmico, percussivo e suonata con tecniche insolite per ricreare suoni e atmosfere di mondi apparentemente lontani tra loro.
Il titolo Raw Wood (legno grezzo) e’ la traduzione dell’ideogramma cinese “pu” 檏nel Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching), il classico del maestro taoista Laozi (Lao Tzu). L’ideogramma simboleggia la semplicita’ e nell’opera di Laozi appare per indicare la semplicita’ del legno grezzo e non ancora lavorato, che racchiude tutta la potenza e la naturalita’, la capacita’ di adattarsi alle forme, che e’ alla base della filosofia taoista.
Il titolo e’ stato scelto per il suo significato simbolico e il suo naturale richiamo alla semplicita’ e al legno della chitarra.
L’immagine di copertina di Mariangela Zabatino rappresenta il legno visto dall’interno, con tutta la sua forza esplosiva ancora incompiuta.

Raw Wood is the new CD by Milanese guitarist and composer Daniele Defranchis, which follows his previous work The Source.
The project is a unique and free fusion of musical styles from classical to modern, with a strong ethnic imprint. Middle-Eastern melodies, African rhythms, Celtic harmonies, rock solos and classical phrasing come together in a unique, sanguine and evocative style.
In the variety of its language, Raw Wood retains a strong musical and stylistic unity, due to the continuous presence of the different musical elements that merge, alternate and follow one another from track to track.
The CD alternates between complex instrumental pieces with a strong rhythmic and adrenalin component and pieces for solo guitar called meditations, contemplative oases that propose music in its therapeutic function typical of oriental culture
The entire musical project revolves around the guitar, used as a melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, percussive instrument and played with unusual techniques to recreate the sounds and atmospheres of seemingly distant worlds.
The title Raw Wood is a translation of the Chinese ideogram ‘pu’ 檏in the Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching), the classic of the Taoist master Laozi (Lao Tzu). The ideogram symbolises simplicity, and in Laozi's work it appears to indicate the simplicity of raw, unworked wood, which embodies all the power and naturalness, the ability to adapt to forms, that underlies Taoist philosophy.
The title was chosen for its symbolic meaning and its natural reference to simplicity and the wood of the guitar.
The cover image by Mariangela Zabatino represents the wood seen from the inside, with all its unfinished explosive strength.
