Peter Thiel thinks AGI would be interesting to GOD. As per Thiel the AI debate of the 2010s was anchored by two contrasting visions: Nick Bostrom's Super intelligence, which predicted AI would surpass human intelligence, and KaiFu Lee's AI Superpowers, which viewed it as a tool for surveillance, particularly by authoritarian regimes like China.
Fast forward to late 2022, and AI took a monumental leap with ChatGPT, essentially passing the Turing test-the Holy Grail of AI research. For decades, this test, where a machine mimics human intelligence convincingly, was a distant goal. But now, it's a reality.
Thiel notes that this breakthrough has been surprisingly under-acknowledged, likely because we're accustomed to incremental progress. This achievement, however, is on par with the early days of the internet in the late '90s-transformative but not fully understood. As we move forward, the challenge lies in how we apply and integrate AI into our world, a process that could take years but is already reshaping our future.
