The Runes: Tyr
Tyr, Tiw or *Tiwaz is the seventeenth rune of the Elder Futhark and Futhorc, and its the twelfth rune of the Younger Futhark. Its name refers, for the most part, to the god Tiw or Tyr of Norse and Germanic mythology, who sacrificed his hand to delay the end of the world. He was probably an important part of Germanic mythology, but few other stories about him survive. In Old English, his name apparently adorns some heavenly body - but we don't know which one.
