The 2024 Great Salt Lake Bird Festival Was Awesome!
Welcome to the 26th annual Great Salt Lake Bird Festival in Utah! Join Diego as he logs his 3,500th eBird species, enjoys great family birding events, does loads of digiscoping, and shares information about Colombia and its birds.
Davis County, Utah is home to the Great Salt Lake, a major North-South migration route for more than 250 bird species. Due to its unique location, it is one of the most popular birdwatching sites. Hundreds of visitors attend this festival every year, finding not only amazing birding opportunities (catching a glimpse of a Flammulated Owl, for example) but also interesting activities such as owl pellet dissection, bird illustration, falconry, conservation, and more.
This year, our friend Jose Castaño attended and offered a talk on Colombian hummingbirds, and Diego shared his "Birding with FARC – How Birds Connect People" presentation at the keynote dinner. The Colombians also hosted a fun digiscoping workshop.
Birding in the alpine snowy mountains above Salt Lake City allowed Diego to reach 3,500 viewed species on eBird with a very special Clark’s Nutcracker sighting.
