What is normal (Non pathological) newborn jaundice?

Jaundice is the yellow color seen in the skin of many newborns. It happens when a chemical called bilirubin builds up in the baby’s blood. During pregnancy, the mother’s liver removes bilirubin for the baby, but after birth, the baby’s liver takes over. Some newborns may have a liver that’s not fully developed, leading to an excess of bilirubin. This makes the skin and the whites of the eyes look yellow, a condition called jaundice.

Tips to prevent jaundice:

1️⃣- Full-term babies have a better chance of having a fully developed liver. In low-risk pregnancies, try to wait for natural labor at 40 weeks.

2️⃣- Frequent feeding helps! It encourages regular bowel movements, helping to clear out bilirubin. Breastfeed 8-12 times a day in the first week.

3️⃣- While research doesn’t strongly support it, some cultures suggest exposing babies to sunlight (especially at noon). It might help reduce jaundice.👉 Also If you have specific concerns about your milk supply or any other aspect of breastfeeding, I recommend reaching out to our team of experts who can provide personalized guidance and support based on your unique situation.
