Anthony Rubio's Inspiration:

That's Italian!

For my Anthony Rubio designs Spring summer 2025 New York Fashion Week Show the theme was "That's Italian!'. Since my first visit to Italy I have developed an affinity for the country, its culture, its history, its music and arts, its cuisine and most especially its passion for life, love and whimsy.

I decided that since I was already planning a trip back to the land of 'La Dolce Vita" I would take inspiration for my next line of canine couture and women's and men's ready to wear collection. For the pups, I created outfits that incorporated the luscious colors of romance and joy. I actually experimented and came up with a replication of Murano Glass. I manipulated a synthetic molded fabric which has a sheen and texture similar to blown glass and came up with dresses and a harness that upon first glance you would swear you are looking at Murano glass. It looks heavy and yet it is both breathable and light as a feather. These pieces live up to the title "Couture" because they require extensive hours of work which included overall 90% hand sewing. The textile has great flexibility due to accordion-like folds which in turn made them very comfortable for the custom fit and movements of the dogs.

I also created canine garments in dreamy textures and colors and some which resembled and paid homage to the classic Venice Carnival, rich in bold colored woven fabrics adorned with tassels, metallic trimmings and accessorized with feathered three corner hats. I must mention that the whimsy came in the form of hats that I handcrafted and decorated with flowers and feathers. Judging from the audience reaction, those hats stole the show as they were comfortable and the pups wore them without any resistance. There were also jeweled garments in bright colors.

For the men I created a blazer in black wool gabardine with metallic silver pin stripes and a black sequined shirt worn with a floral print tie.

My womenswear was a celebration of the Italian woman with dresses in black sequins, lace, floral petals as well as red garments and some gold. It was all so feminine and romantic a la Sophia Loren.

I enjoyed creating these designs but more so the joy they brought to my audience who raved after the show with resounding compliments of "Bravissimo!!!!"
