You can increase the (time)efficiency of your trains by researching braking force. But even with braking force fully researched, trains take a while to stop. But there are other ways to get trains to stop fast...
mods: The contraption works entirely within vanilla, however some mods were used to help with building and recording (creative mode, ...).

blueprints: this is more of a proof of concept, instead of a practical design. The design is build in 2 parts that fit together differently depending on the rest of your network, I can't do that in advance... If you really want to build it yourself, you can download the map and see how it works (it shouldn't be that hard to understand). Still don't understand it? Ask about it in the comments.
Sorry about the quality. I've had some trouble with recording and editing (tried multiple (free) video editors, non really worked properly). I thought it would be better to just get the video out there than to redo the whole thing. If you have any tips on how to improve these videos (like recommendations for video editing software) feel free to post them in the comments.
