In the fascinating "suspended factory", architectural jewel of Eng. Pierluigi Nervi, Pro-Gest spa Mantova plant gives new life to paper. An 80-tonne overhead crane with a very high degree of automation to handle reels and ensure safety and precision, every day.
An unusual, large industrial building with out-of-the-ordinary requirements, to be equipped with a specially designed double-girder overhead crane. Challenge accepted and won by OMIS, alongside Pro-gest, the Italian recycled paper giant.OMIS was already a long-standing supplier of Pro-gest and knew its needs and expectations well. This fruitful dialogue resulted in the design and production of the lifting and handling system, the largest in service at the company, served by specially designed and important runways and with a maximum load capacity of 80 tonnes.

OVERHEAD CRANES
The OMIS double-girder overhead crane is the ideal tool to meet all capacity, span and speed requirements, in every environment and sector, including the most demanding in terms of structure and performance. The crane comes with a wide range of accessories and variable configurations, enabling optimal lifting heights, limiting hook loss, and leading to a high degree of automation.
The standard double-girder overhead cranes have a load capacity of up to 150 tons and a span of up to 32 m. For a load capacity of up to 12.5 tons, OMIS double-girder overhead cranes can be fitted with a hoist or open barrel hoist. The cranes use inverters, though double-speed motors are also made available on request. OMIS is the first company of its kind in Italy to make extensive use of inverter technology.

OPEN WINCH
Open barrel winches are essential devices for lifting and moving heavy loads in industrial settings. Designed and manufactured in-house for over 40 years, OMIS open barrel winches are available in a wide range of capacities and configurations, ensuring high-quality construction, optimal performance and long service life.
Open barrel winches, commonly installed on bridge cranes, are supplied pre-assembled on the trolley, complete with motor, brake and wheels, ready for quick installation. The lifting and travel movements of the trolley are managed by inverters to ensure maximum precision and control. The standard hook strokes are 10 and 20 m, but greater lengths are possible on request.
Two main versions are available, single-reeved, with a single rope winding (2/4/6 strands) and double-reeved, with double rope winding (4/8/12/16 strands), ideal for more precise load positioning.
Open barrel winches are available both as single units and integrated into complete crane kits.

OMIS overhead cranes ensure the safe transport of loads, the pick-up of reels in synchronisation with the paper machine operating cycle, and the efficient storage and retrieval of rolls of paper. Thanks to special equipment, these overhead cranes offer great reliability and allow the necessary maintenance work even in wet and dry areas of continuous paper machines.
The main requirements of paper mill work, i.e. safety, high performance and 24/7 continuity of operation, are commonly met by plants with a load capacity of up to 40 tonnes and a span of up to 20 metres, equipped with an OMIS double-reeved open barrel hoist with a swivel gripper for lifting. In this way, the double girder overhead crane allows the safe and precise movement of paper machine reels, maintenance work in high humidity conditions, the replacement of rollers and other paper machine components, the transport of machine parts – e.g. in stock preparation – and service and maintenance work in all working areas of the paper mill.
