Honda Electric Parking Brake Problems: Causes And Solutions Explained. In this video tutorial I will show you how to fix problems with Honda electric parking brake.
Here is what causes it;
Dirty or faulty parking button
If the parking brake button does not light up or engage the brakes when pressed, the button itself is likely the problem. Often, dust or debris gets stuck behind the button, preventing it from engaging the brakes. The switch may also get damaged, especially when spilled with drinks.
A blown fuse or faulty wiring
Since your Honda parking brake system is mostly electrical, chances are high that its associated problems stem from electrical components. A blown brake fuse in the fuse box or a loose connection in the wires may lead to braking problems. Loose wiring is likely to be the culprit for brake problems, especially if the issues keep clearing and coming back by themselves.
A faulty servo motor
A malfunctioning brake servo motor may also contribute to the braking problems. Wear, electrical faults and mechanical damages are common issues that may cause the servo motors to malfunction.
Here are solutions to try;
Clean or replace the parking button
If the button is visibly dirty, scrub it down and the areas around it as well to clear the issue. Pry out any debris or crumbs embedded in between the switch and its socket with a pin or a toothpick. You can finish the cleaning with an antibacterial wipe or any other cleaning agent. If the button is still unresponsive after cleaning, you may order a replacement switch with the same specifications to fit in your car.
Replace blown fuses and check the wiring
With your vehicle off and battery terminals disconnected, locate the fuse associated with the electrical parking brake system. If the fuse seems blown, replace it with another one with similar specifications. If the fuse is not faulty, then check the associated wiring for loose connections and do them properly.
Replace the servo motor
Replacing the servo is technical and should be done by qualified personnel. Take the car to your dealer or trusted garage for servo replacements.
