How we found sustainability in backpacks...

In 2016 we discovered Khadi Cotton in India. Khadi is a process rather than a 'thing' but revolves around craftspeople making 'by hand' a variety of things, without mechanisation, or electricity...

Cora + Spink discovered Khadi Cotton in 2016.

Working with the West Bengal Government we have been able to bring Khadi Cotton into our backpacks - a beautiful cloth that supports, and develops the people making it.

The specifics, the Khadi we use is hand spun, hand woven cloth, each batch is totally unique, has an amazing robust and strong feel - it's perfect for a long lasting backpack. Every meter of fabric we produce gives back to the Khadi Board of West Bengal, a cooperative that supports, educates and develops Khadi workers.

The support given by the board is instrumental in Cora + Spink understanding that every person on the journey of a backpack is happy. A simple concept that we stick to - making sure people are respected, paid well and have opportunity to grow as individuals and businesses is as important to us as the final customer having a great experience and backpack.

Teaser video that we will expand on more when we release the range in 2019.
