The Taste of Puerto Rico... We're Making Mofongo!
We enjoyed Mofongo on our trip to Puerto Rico so much that we had to try re-creating this traditional dish at home. Mofongo is a savory, iconic Puerto Rican dish made from fried green plantains with seasoning mashed in a wooden mortar and pestle called a pilón. It has a hearty, starchy, and garlicky taste, served as a dense ball or bowl topped with garlic shrimp, fried meat, or broth. With roots in African fufu and Caribbean tradition, it is a staple comfort food.
