We explore The Forever Winter, a cooperative tactical shooter developed by Dog Dog, an indie team led by artists rather than designers. It launched in Early Access at an abnormally early time for the community, and those who have jumped in have discovered two things: one, that it still has a lot of life left; and two, that it has charm and a future.
The game describes a grimdark universe in which multiple major military powers have engaged in a global conflict. In the shadow of corpse-camouflaged tanks, drones, and titanic mechas, our role is that of a simple scavenger who scours the battlefield in search of basic resources, primarily water, to sustain the surviving population sheltering in underground complexes.
